Boxing Psychology: Daniel Dubois – Visualise!

daniel dubois - boxing psychologyThe Talksport YouTube channel recently posted a video with an intriguing description: ‘Bizarre Daniel Dubois rituals for Anthony Joshua explained’.

Ok, you’ve got me. I’ll watch it.

So to save you clicking, here’s the ‘bizarre ritual’:

After training at Don Charles’s gym, The Farm in Borehamwood, Daniel stares for an hour at the Wembley arch, visible from the training facility.

Wembley – the venue for his showdown with Anthony Joshua on September 21st.

A bizarre ritual? Sounds pretty sensible to me.

This is the biggest fight of Daniel’s career.

He’ll be walking out at Wembley to a hostile pro-AJ crowd.

Why not engage in the deepest mental preparation possible?

It’s there. In the distance. You can see it. Smell it. Drink it in.

How much easier does it then become to imagine yourself…

Leaving the dressing room. The ring walk. The ring entrance. The MC. The first bell. The action.

From every conceivable viewpoint. Round by round. As if its happening. Now.

Repeated over the hour.

Repeated daily.

So that by the time September 21st rolls around, every cell in your body is ready for what will unfold.

You will feel like you have been here before.

That this has already happened.

Before it has happened.

They say you’re inexperienced regarding the big Wembley occasion.

That AJ holds all the aces in this department.

But you haven’t just fought at Wembley every day for the last 30 days in your mind.

You’ve built a bank of Power. Force. Energy.

Each visualization adds to the reservoir you’ll take into the ring with you.

In a 50/50 fight, never underestimate the man who has visualized every detail of what’s about to unfold.

This isn’t bizarre. This is mental preparation.
